Everlast's Horowitz Passes Away
NOVEMBER 29, 2005 --
Everlast Worldwide CEO/COB George Horowitz passed away yesterday after a fight with kidney cancer. Horowitz was a familiar face in the sporting goods industry. He was very passionate about the sport of boxing and convinced many sporting goods chains to give it floor space. He was a regular exhibitor at the Super Show and served on the board of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association.
"Our entire Everlast organization mourns this tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers are with George's wife, Renee, and their family. Our deepest sympathies go out to them," said Jim Anderson, VCOB. "George was a brilliant man who brought tremendous leadership, energy and passion to his job which revitalized the Everlast brand to become a worldwide name in over 100 countries during his five plus year tenure as CEO and Chairman. He made an indelible mark not only on the Everlast brand and legacy but inside and outside the professional and amateur boxing ring."
He was born March 22, '50, became CEO/COB of Everlast Worldwide in October '00 after merging his company, Active Apparel Group, into Everlast Holdings Corp., a privately held company. He founded Active Apparel Group in '92 and became a licensee of Everlast apparel.
Horowitz spent more than 30 years within the apparel and sporting goods businesses, prior to which he was an educator in the New York City school system. He was very active in charitable organizations, and a board member of both the American Heart Association, as well as SGMA.
The company has appointed Seth Horowitz CEO/COB. He will continue his roll as president.
